Strap in for a red hot, full throttle love odyssey through the scorching Deep South!
Based on the pulp novel by author Barry Gifford, David Lynch's darkly funny southern gothic melodrama follows outlaw lovers Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern) as they go on the run from Lula's hysterical Mother (Diane Ladd) through a menacing landscape populated by the usual stable of unsettling Lynchian weirdos (including Isabella Rossellini, Harry Dean Stanton, and a terrifying Willem Dafoe).
This sun-bleached, heavy metal version of The Wizard of Oz, received the coveted Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival amid “the most violent chorus of boos and hisses to be heard in a decade.”
So grab your snakeskin jacket and join us for the ultimate rock 'n' roll road trip!
Restored by Criterion in collaboration with Universal Pictures, supervised by the film’s director of photography, Frederick Elmes, and approved by the David Lynch Estate.
